A Public Birching In Flanders
Now isn’t this a festive bit of public birching?

This is an interesting find, one of the earlier examples of corporal punishment in the fine arts. Even back then, the bottom was bared for the birch since it’s not effective over clothing, and spectators found the birching to be of interest much in the same way bar paddlings are today.
