Hungarian Princess Spanked In Public
By the Russians. In 1848. Chross has the story:
Only when the unequal struggle was over and the Russians and their allies marched into our capital did we realize what Slav blood and Slav breeding is and can’t help being. They tore down our flags which in war they had been unable to capture, and tried to steal the crown and the precious regalia of St. Stephen, but these, of course, we had hidden away. And then what do you think they did? You could not guess in a hundred years so I may as well tell you right away. Those Russian brutes dragged the Princess Batthyany from her palace out into the market-place and there spanked her publicly because, forsooth, her sons like all true Magyars had fought in Kossuth’s army.
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking: “this post is worthless without pictures.” Well, my friend, you wouldn’t expect it, but Chross has that covered, too:
There may be more to the story we do not have. In the illustration you can see at least two women being whipped, and there are two women stripped to the waist wielding the whips, also. Plus at least one random Cossack who also wanted to get in on the whipping action. I think the demands of luridness (“Let’s show topless girls doing the whipping!”) were in conflict with the demands of propoganda (“Make sure we show those Cossack swine in action!”) when this image was composed by the artist. (It’s also possible the image is unrelated to the story; Chross doesn’t say it is related, and I don’t comprehend the caption that’s visible in the uncropped image.)

No, it’s not (directly) related:
The caption reads:
Cossacks’ jests
“For every bloody welt you draw she’s allowed to give you one less back!”
Erotic depiction of “Cossacks’ jests” during the suppression of the revolution in 1905.
So it was close enough for illustration matters I think :)
Cheers
Chross
Agreed! And I do appreciate you including it.
[…] Cossack’s idea of a jest: tie two women over a log in the snow, make some other women whip them. Then swap positions and do it […]
The caption of the original image is in German, and says:
‘Cossack fun
“For every bloody [strike] you make, she may give you back one fewer.”
Erotic narration of the “Cossack fun” during the crushing of the 1905 upheaval.’
This picture is therefore set in the context of the Russian revolution.
OK look I enjoy this as a porn site but these are war crimes.
I’m not sure “war crimes” was a notion that had much definition prior to the Hague conventions.
