This photo of Henry Fonda winding up to swat Maureen O’Hara is not as well known as the famous scenes where she ended up over John Wayne’s knee, but perhaps it ought to be? Obviously a publicity photo, it’s from the production of the 1963 movie Spencer’s Mountain. The cover of the Spring 1993 issue of National Lampoon featured a mean-looking blonde with red lipstick, who is lounging on a bed in full/ridiculous sex shop patent-leather-and-chains dominatrix gear. An off-screen man is holding the handle of a whip that’s wrapped around her neck and the reader is exhorted to “Buy this magazine or we’ll whip Dita!
